Streetscape in the Independence Heights neighborhood of Houston

Houston, TX

Independence Heights

A historic north-side neighborhood, the first town in Texas incorporated by African Americans, now seeing steady new investment.

Independence Heights was incorporated in 1915, the first city in Texas incorporated by African Americans, and became part of Houston in 1929. That history is a real part of the neighborhood’s identity, and it is recognized with a historic district.

It sits just north of the Heights, with quick access to the 610 Loop and I-45, so downtown and the rest of the city are an easy drive. The area has seen steady new construction alongside its original homes.

For buyers, it can offer more space for the money than neighborhoods a few minutes south. I will help you look at recent sales, lot sizes and flood history for any home you are considering.
